The research area "Automotive" clusters two focus areas involved with the following themes:

"Competent Control" is a competence center for applied research and development in the area of innovative vehicle and control and safety systems. It provides regional and national companies in the automotive sector with a point of contact for the relevant research contracts and collaborative ventures. Above and beyond this, the aim is develop a network to strengthen scientific transfer through cooperation with industrial partners.

The project ETARA (development and test center for automation, robotics and automotive) aims to create an infrastructure for the development and testing of software for automation and test systems, drawing on this in cooperation with industrial partners in the relevant sectors by way of a technology transfer. For this purpose, Rapid Control Prototyping tools are used to support the common target systems in the various areas of application. In addition to universally applicable lab systems (e.g. dSPACE), the hardware for the defined spectrum of industrial target systems is also provided. The project also involves setting up and operating facilities for test automation as well as a number of model control paths.
