Dr. Christina Dimitriou from SUNY, US on business ethics and diversity management

Last week, one faculty member of one of Aschaffenburg’s partner universities, SUNY Plattsburgh, U.S. was invited as a guest lecturer at Aschaffenburg University of Applied Sciences. Dr. Christina K. Dimitrou from the School of Business and Economics (SBE) to teach BA and MA students about business ethics and diversity management on an international level.

In her lectures to students, Dr. Dimitriou stressed the importance of understanding, studying and applying business ethics as well as appreciating and understanding diversitiy for international managers. She also addressed and explained the ability of managers to transform diverse groups of people into successful teams. 

In a course on how to build an international career, Dr. Dimitrou shared some tips, having built a successful international career herself, and emphasized how critical it is for students to ensure through good and careful preparation that the corporate philosophy and values of the company they are applying for matches their own ethical standards and personal values. Students highly appreciated the U.S. guest who shared her professional experience and expertise having worked and lived both in Europe and the U.S. and mentored students for more than 15 years in Europe as well as in the U.S. One of her key messages to students is:“It is important to find your passion and then be patient and determined to make it happen“ she said encouraging students not to give up on their dream and be ready to embrace their mistakes and learn from them.

“We are thrilled to have you with us“, the Vice President Prof. Dr. Eva-Maria Beck--Meuth welcomed the  U.S. guest on campus. Both partners share core values such as dedication to standards of excellence in teaching and mentoring students, motivating and supporting students and valuing diversity“. The cooperation promotes student exchanges and it was agreed that the successful visit of the second faculty member of the business school of SUNY will soon be reciprocated by a faculty member of Aschaffenburg University of Applied Sciences to deepen the cooperation. 

Prof. Dr. Alexandra Angress, Faculty of Business Administration and Law, who initiatited the university cooperation with her U.S. colleague from SUNY Plattsburgh,  Dr. Jackie Vogle Head of the Global Education Office, invited the guest to Aschaffenburg University of Applied Sciences. This visit was financially supported by the  Bavarian Guest Professor Program and it was the second visit by the U.S. partner university in the State of New York following the visit of the Dean of the Business School, Dr. Rowena Ortiz-Walter, which took place last summer.
